About me
I have always been passionate about mental wellbeing. I initially
trained as a Mental Health Nurse and within a couple of years
discovered the difference psychological therapy can make to an
individual's life. As an accredited psychological therapist, I have
25 years of experience working in the NHS and private practice.
During my career in the UK I worked with individuals experiencing
all types of mental health challenges and psychological distress in
primary and secondary health care, Employee Assistance Programmes,
clinical research and University Student Support.
Since 2020 I have lived in the Charente Maritime, and continue to
work with UK clients on line. I also offer therapy sessions to
individuals residing in France, either in person in Saintes or
online over Zoom.
I have experience helping people with low mood, depression, anxiety,
panic, OCD, phobias, trauma, grief, adjustment, interpersonal
conflict, work stress, perfectionism, coping with physical health
problems, low self esteem and low confidence.
About therapy
People contemplate a talking therapy for many reasons. It maybe
something specific you want help with; an accumulation of challenges
or a fear for the future. I offer a safe space to explore emotional
difficulties and understand the impact in your daily life. Therapy
is client led, so you choose the focus for therapy. We begin by
making links between the past and the present. We take the time to
describe the events, relationships and situations that have
triggered distress and how you are currently coping. Once we have a
shared understanding, we work together to target areas of life that
can bring about personal growth and meaningful change.
I have had extensive training in different therapy models. I blend
therapy approaches in response to the individual. You may benefit
from CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), ACT (Acceptance and
Commitment Therapy) or Compassion Focused Therapy. Increasing
psychological flexibility can help us face life's challenges and
make adjustments in our thinking and behaving. I will introduce you
to techniques to help you transform your daily emotional
experiences. I am here to support you in this journey of change.
Therapy sessions last for 1 hour. Sessions are offered on a weekly
or fortnightly basis. I also offer monthly follow-up sessions to
review progress and offer longer term support. I would be pleased to
offer you an initial telephone conversation to explore what kind of
support you are looking for and answer any questions you may have.
