MY BACKGROUND
I initially trained and worked as a
secondary school teacher. Thereafter I worked for 23 years in mental
health, in both the voluntary and statutory sectors. For the past fifteen
years I have been working as a psychotherapist in private practice; I have
also worked as a supervisor helping to train others. I have taught on the
Masters degree in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy programme at Sheffield
University. For six years I was on the Clinical Committee of the
Association for Group and Individual Psychotherapy (the organisation with
which I trained); I have extensive experience of assessing people’s
suitability for psychotherapy.
I have worked with people from a wide range of ethnic
and cultural backgrounds and also with people of different sexual
orientations. Having lived in a number of different countries, I have
experience of moving to a new country and understand the problems and
difficulties that this may entail.
I have been living and working in France in the Midi
Pyrenees area since 2004. I am bilingual in French and English and have
experience of working as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in both
languages.
WHAT IS PSYCHOANALYTIC PSYCHOTHERAPY?
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a talking therapy for
alleviating people’s suffering. People may experience emotions that they
cannot understand or they may find themselves acting in ways that are
detrimental to their wellbeing .
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy provides a regular time and confidential
setting in which the therapist and the client work together to address and
understand the reasons for these difficulties. This process can enable
people to gain a greater sense of freedom and autonomy in how they live
their lives.
A sliding scale is available in cases of
